So let me explain the time line of me getting a job.
Sunday - Complain about not having a job and how people keep asking me about it and how annoying that is. As a result I pledge to never ask anyone about their job ever again.
Monday - I take a trip to the new employment office which is coincidently, right next to the old employment office that I had visited before but was sent away for reasons I still do not understand. Though I excelled at filling out my application and was rewarded with an interview.
Wednesday - I arrive to said interview at 1:50. 10 Mins early. I proceeded to wait until 3:20 before a secretary comes out to asks me if my interviewer knows I’m hear. I pointed out that I hadn’t met with him, but I did check in with the desk who sent me to wait. Eventually, I’m seen by my interviewer and all goes well. He offers me an opportunity to audition on Thursday.
Wednesday Night - I read over my rules for the games, and watched Casino starring Robert DeNiro.
Thursday - I’m a little nervous considering I hadn’t dealt a hand of poker since July. I hoped to have at least a week day’s notice for my audition so I could stop by the school and get some hands in. I knew the games, but its another thing to deal with all the proper equipment. I took a written test first which was easy as sin. Although I’m pretty sure a few of my class members from PDS would have failed. After the test, I tapped into a live game, dealt a few hands… and I was told I passed and got the job. Apparently they liked the way I dealt, although I plead the 5th. I didn’t feel very good about my performance. But everyone from the players to the railbirds to the staff said I did well. But I like to say Fuck it… I got the job.
Now I play the waiting game some more until Personal gets in touch with me. I got a call back from another job that wants be to work corporate casino parties. So we’ll see how that goes.
So I got a job. But I’m still playing poker.
On a side note, my Highschool teachers would kick my ass if they saw how I drift in and out of the passive voice like a past/future coma. Seriously…they would fight me. That’s how things work at CBA. (correction: That’s how things workED at CBA. No more hazing.)
I got my first interview with a Casino. I applied, took a test in which was mostly consisted of personal analysis type questions, and after chatting it up with the office workers, I got offered an interview. I even got a card that said “Congratulations: You have an interview”. As nice as that is, I’m still waiting on the card that says, “Congratulations: You have a job”.
The interview is with Harrah’s, which is “the world’s premier provider of branded casino entertainment”. They own a ton of Casinos including Caesars, Harrah’s, Showboat, and Bally’s…which are the four in Atlantic City. They aren’t currently advertising openings for full time dealers, but I hope to get lucky and score one anyway. Or at least nab one of the other positions. Either part time, on call, and they are also hiring for the World Series of Poker Circuit Events.
Caesars and Showboat both opened new card rooms this past summer, so they would both be nice places to work. I’ll keep everyone informed on the statis of my job.

I feel like there is someone going around telling people I got a job in Atlantic City. I can’t go a week without talking to someone that asks me how I like working there, or asks me to “hook them up”, or asks me for restaurant recommendations.
I hope to get hired asap, but since it is off season, it might take me a little bit of time. But…as soon as I know, I’ll make sure everyone else knows.
I feel like I have to explain every day what the whole deal is, but here it goes. I took classes to get my certificate in poker. Four hours a day for four days a week for a month. I also got licensed by the NJ Casino Control Comission which takes a few months and an FBI background check.
No I don’t deal black jack, I won’t work roulette, I don’t deal “Let it Ride”. Only poker.
I deal the three major types of poker: Hold’em, Stud, and Omaha. Now for all of you that think I need a seperate certificate for each, or that I won’t get hired without other games, you’re wrong.
No, I can’t “hook” you up. Yeah, like I would risk losing my license and getting black balled from working in any casino so I could deal you pocket aces that you’ll probably misplay anyway.
Here’s how I will get paid: Minimal hourly salary ($5 or so) + Tips. Tips are estimated as $1 per hand you deal. My instructor would deal 25 hands in a half hour. Do the math. So he makes upwards of $55 an hour.
Where do I want to work? Wherever they will hire me. But the Taj or Borgata or Trop or Showboat would be nice.
I won’t be able to play where I work.
Almost a year ago to the date is when I started playing limit poker as a source of income. It treated me well and gave me some opportunities like living and travel. I stopped playing so I could focus on getting this job, so I would have more money to pay bills as well as play some poker.
Well, the job isn’t coming as easily as I hoped, but at least I’m trained and ready to start at any point.
In the mean time I’ve been bored as hell. I’m on this medicine to motivate and keep me focused, and I have NOTHING worth doing. So I have been looking to start playing poker. At least just to have something to do.
I’ve been playing in these free tournaments. I won around $700 worth of tournament cash in them. It’s real cash, but it can only be used to play in tournaments. So I used that to back a friend to play in this big $100,000 tourney the past few weeks. He’s a much better multi table tournament player than I am, so its a good investment. He couldn’t play this past week, so I played. I played pretty well getting down to the final 150. When I made a one of the worst mistakes of my life and lost everything. It was really stupid on my part. I was in a good position to make a run for the money, and I bluffed it all away.
I didn’t lose anything from playing, but I was really bothered by my stupidity. I gave myself $50 yesterday to try and turn it into something. I hate turning small money into large money because of the stress and the discipline it takes. I can’t really afford to make mistakes when you have little to lose.
But its day 2 and I spun it into $276 already.
On a side note… I have no idea whether I took my medicine today. I kinda assumed I did, but I haven’t felt right today and the more I think of it…I think I forgot to take it. I’ve been getting very forgetful. -I just had to count pills. I did take it apparently.
I’ve been rambling, so its movie time. I’ve watched Emily Rose every night for a week and havn’t been able to stay awake, so I’m going to catch the next 20 minutes till I pass out.
So my prescription ran out and I didn’t make it to the pharmacy. I had nothing to do today so I went without and I’m just starting to feel it now. I thought about writing something, and I felt the procrastination wash over. So I started fucking with my head and thought about how I would feel if I had to write a paper for a class in the morning. Let’s just say that there is no way that paper would be getting done right now.
I tried to expand…but I think I’m just going to put on a movie and go to bed. I’m going to have to get myself to Eckerd in the morning.

The site has been fixed, but since I had to redo it from scratch, I decided to start from the bottom. I scrapped Movable Type and started using WordPress. Thats what seems to be the in thing. So I spent the day learning how to install it. It’s supposed to be a 5 minute install, but I managed to make it stretch the whole day. Most things on it are easier to work with, so I should be ok finishing up the minor details.
Enough technical details.
